Description

A stone obelisk. Three name panels.

Originally located in School Road, the position of the memorial meant that services were difficult to hold.

Moved to the Memorial garden in 2000, forming a group with various memorial benches.

CWGC record gives : Son of Charles and Emily Brewer; husband of Louisa Marion Brewer (nee Sparrow), of 207, Grove St., Deptford, London. Native of Isle of Wight. The death notice in the Isle of Wight County Press of 25 August 1917 states "BREWER - July 14, killed in action in France, Charles Brewer of Godshill, eldest son of the late Mrs Brewer of Bournemouth, aged 25." Soldiers Died in the Great War gives his place of birth as Pokesdown, Hants.

CWGC record gives : Son of James and Elizabeth Mary Stevens, of Kennerley Cottages, Godshill. Wroxall Isle of Wight. The death notice in the Isle of Wight County Press of 8 Dec 1917 states "STEVENS - Nov ---, killed in action in France, Gr Frank Stevens youngest son of Mr and Mrs J Stevens of Pagham-cottages near Rookley, aged 25." Soldiers Died in the Great War does not give his place of birth, but does show he enlisted, and was resident, in Godshill.
