DEATHS WISE. - Killed in action at Nieuport, whilst leading a landing party from H.M.S. Severn, on the 20th October, Lieutenant Edward Selby Wise, R.N., eldest son of Edward Wise, of White Gables, Woking, aged 27.

The brothers' connection with Ryde appears to stem from members of their family who lived in Ryde, e.g. their uncle Alexander Wise (d. 1909). Their grandfather Edward Wise, was born in Carisbrooke in 1818.
