LOCAL LOSS IN H.M.S. BULWARK
The loss of Warrant Officer F.C. Sheath in the Bulwark will cause regretted bereavement to a well-known and esteemed Ventnor family. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Sheath of Macrocarpa Lodge, was 34 years of age, married, and had two children. He was a first class Petty Officer on H.M.S. Talbot at Port Arthur when the Russian-Japanese War broke out. He was afterwards torpedo instructor on the Bulldog, and was appointed Warrant Officer on the Bulwark in January of this year. The toll of war is beginning to exact a full measure from Ventnor people. Those who lost their lives in the Bulwark died as truly for their country as any of the hundreds of all nations who are perishing daily. The wisest words are poor things to express the loss in hundreds of homes today, but even to those whom it is most irreparable the thought that the whole country mourns with them may bring a gleam of comfort in the darkness of utter calamity.
