Mr. Charles Alfred Seaman, formerly of Ventnor, died on Tuesday week at his home at Niton at the age of 51. He was son of Mr. H. Seaman, of Ventnor, and leaves a widow and son, and his death has occasioned much sorrow in the district of which he was such a highly respected resident. Mr. Seaman had been in the employ of Messrs. He was a member of the local branch of the British Legion, the Horticultural Society and the Rechabites, and a steward at the Niton Baptist Church. In addition to these activities Mr. Seaman was a special constable and was held in the highest esteem by his fellow members of the I.W. Constabulary.
The funeral took place at the Baptist Church, Niton, on Friday, and was conducted by the Rev. E.H. Burdett (resident minister). The principal mourners were Mrs. Seaman (widow), Bdr. D. Seaman (son), Mr. H. Seaman (father), Mr. and Mrs. H. Smith (uncle and aunt), and Mr. and Mrs. L. Cotton (brother-in-law and sister-in-law).
Special constables H. Plumbley, C. Attrill, C. Deighton and F. Philips acted as bearers, and others present representing the I.W. Constabulary were Acting Sergeant H. Quiggin, Special Sergeant C.P. Netherton, P.c. S. Sampson, P.W.R. C. Barnes, Special Constables H. Hooper and J. Fishburn.
