Further Information

The connection with Shanklin is not clear. The only birth for a Norbert Richard Baines in the years 1880 - 1890 is registered as Jun 1890 Keighley 9a 192. The 1901 Census for Hampstead St Vincent's Orphanage shows Norbert Baines aged 11 as a Scholar - orphan, but this seems to go against the CWGC entry which seems to indicate that his parents were still alive. The 1911 Census gives him at 71 Crescent Road, Wood Green, London as a clerk in tourist office, boarding with Mary Theresa Lyons, a widow.
