The aircraft took off from RAF Skellingford at 22.39 hrs for Ops on Boug-Leopold, but was shot down by a German night fighter on the outward leg. The aircraft crashed 4 km SW of Meisele. Eastwood and Kayser were buried at Schoonselhof Cemetery in Belgium; the other crew members who died are named on the Runnymede memorial. Sgt Willis was taken Prisoner of War and transferred to Camp 357.
