148 Sqn were based at Kabrit in Egypt, equipped with Vickers Wellington bombers. Nothing is known of this Officer's death. He was reported "Missing" in The Times of 4 August 1941. Reported to have officially lost his life in June 1941, according to the death notice in The Times of 8 Dec 1941, where his parents' names are given.

Flt Lt Broadsmith attended Ryde School, where his name appears on the Ryde School War Memorial. His name does not appear on the Binstead War Memorial.
