148 Sqn were based at Kabrit in Egypt, equipped with Vickers Wellington bombers. Nothing is known of this Officer's death. He was reported "Missing" in The Times of 4 August 1941. Reported to have officially lost his life in June 1941, according to the death notice in The Times of 8 Dec 1941, where his parents' names are given.

Flt Lt Broadsmith attended Ryde School. His name does not appear on the Binstead War Memorial.
