Arthur Frederick Percy Orchard

Son of William Orchard and Margaret Fanny Orchard (née Jeffery), of Oakfield, Ryde.

Born : 17 May 1893, Ryde.

Census 1901 : 2 Wood Street, Oakfield, Ryde, Isle of Wight

Census 1911 : 6 Oakfield Hill, Ryde, Isle of Wight

Married : 22 Nov 1916, Alice Georgina Squibb, at St Thomas' Church, Ryde, Isle of Wight. Alice Georgina Orchard subequently married Cecil Meran Richards, in 1920, and lived at Jacinth Cottage, Bettesworth Rd., Ryde.

Service details :

Stoker 1st Cl. K/15239 Arthur Percy Orchard, H.M. Submarine G8.

Enlisted 1912.

Died 3rd January 1918, while serving on H.M. Submarine G8. The submarine was reported lost in the North Sea under unknown circumstances on 14 January 1918.

Arthur Percy Orchard's elder brother Henry George Orchard also served in the Royal Navy and died in WW I. He is buried in St John's Church Cemetery.
