Born 1888 Whitwell.

  Census Information :

1891 : Alfred Roach, aged 2, is with his mother Florence, and his grandparents John and Edith Roach, at Kemming, Whitwell.

1901 : Albert and Florence Bushnell, with her son Alfred Roach aged 12, are at Kemming, Whitwell. Albert Bushnell is an Ordinary Agricultural labourer.

1911 : Alfred Roach, aged 22, is a Gunner with 92nd Bty., Royal Field Artillery, at Trimulgherry, Deccan, India. His mother and step-father are at 2 Down Lane, Ventnor.

Gunner Alfred Bushnell, who formerly lived at Lowtherville, has been killed in action in France.

It appears that the preceding report has used his step-father's surname rather than his own

Rifleman Vanasche, a Ventnor lad, not out of his teens, has come home wounded from the Dardanelles. Two Whitwell men have laid down their lives on the field of honour, George Henry Chick and Alfred William Roach.

ROACH - Killed in action in France, Oct 13th, Gunner Alfred William Roach, R.F.A., the dearly beloved and only son of Mrs. Bushnell, of Whitwell, aged 26.

Brother of Lillian May Roach, of Ivy Cottage, Whitwell, Ventnor.
