  Family information :

Jon Baker writes in March 2012 :

I notice on the CWGC site that Thomas was married to Florence Emily Jackson, formerly Dunning. I have tracked down this marriage, Thomas married Florence Emily Ellis in 1913 in Fulham district. It seems also likely that they had 4 daughters between 1913 and 1919, Mabel F (1913), Mary C (1914), Florence M (1917) and Winifred V (1919). Florence Emily remarried in 1921 to James E Jackson in West Ham. I have to assume that the CWGC details were collected after 1925 since the additional information states that Thomas was the son of the "late T and M Dunning". His father actually died in 1925, his mother had died in 1903 and his step-mother in 1914.

The Dunnings moved to the Isle of Wight from Dorset (Buckland Newton/Alton Pancras) in the 1880s. For some reason the 3 eldest brothers all migrated to the Island, but none of the rest of the family. Their parents and younger siblings all remained in Dorset. Thomas' Grandparents were my 4 x Great Grandparents (Henry Dunning and Jane Mullet), their daughter Melina married Daniel Cole and this daughter Emily Cole married my 2 x Great Grandfather Charles Downton in Buckland Newton and soon after they moved to Shorwell. I wonder if Charles' decision to move to the Island was influenced by the Dunnings who moved there a few years earlier. Emily Cole's eldest sister Mary Ann Cole married Thomas Dunning in 1904 and so was the step-mother of Thomas Adolphus when he was about 16. There are several cousin marriages in this family group.
