Son of William Carpenter and Maria Ann Carpenter (née Russell) of St Lawrence.

Born 31 May 1887, St Lawrence.
  Census information :

1891 : William and Maria Ann Carpenter, with children including Herbert aged 3, are at Vestry Cottage, St Lawrence. William Carpenter is an Agricultural Labourer.

1901 : William and Maria Ann Carpenter, with sons including Herbert aged 13, are in St Lawrence. William Carpenter is a Cowman on Farm.

1911 : William and Maria Ann Carpenter, with son Frank, are at St Lawrence Shute, St Lawrence. William Carpenter is a Cowman on Farm. Herbert Carpenter has not been located.

In 1920 William Carpenter's address was given as Old Park Lodge, St Lawrence, on his son's Medal Index Card.

CARPENTER. - On the 31st May, at St. Lawrence, the wife of Mr. William Carpenter, of a son.

The further sympathy of many friends will be extended to Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter, an aged couple (*), of St. Lawrence, in the death of their youngest son, who was killed in action during the Dardanelles operations. Only a week or two ago their eldest son passed away at St. Lawrence. (**)

(*) In 1915, William Carpenter was 74, and Maria Carpenter was 72.
