Name : Ernest Boyd Barrett

Son of Harry Michael Barrett and Emily Jane Barrett (née Symonds), of Newport, Isle of Wight.

Born : 1889, Sandown, Isle of Wight.
  Census information :

1901 : Ernest Barrett, aged 1, is listed as a Visitor with the Love family at 12 Chapel St. Newport.

1901 : Harry and Emily Barrett, with their children (Ernest is not included), are at 45 Trafalgar Road, Newport. Harry Barrett is a General Labourer.

1911 : Harry and Emily Barrett, with their children including Ernest aged 21, are at 6 Barton Road, Newport. Harry Barrett is a Crane Driver. Ernest Barrett is a Shop Assistant.
Emily Barrett listed all her children on the Census return; those not at home have subsequently been crossed out by the Enumerator. From this we see that Cecil, George (William) and Percy Barrett are Privates in H.M. Army, and Arthur Barrett is serving in H.M. Navy. Fred is still at school.

Ernest Barrett worked for Briggs & Co and Bishop Bros as a shop assistant in the boot trade. (He is on the left in the apron in the photo of the Briggs & Co shop).

Ann Barrett for photographs and documents. Ernest Barrett was the uncle of the late Les Barrett, Ann's husband, whose father was Arthur Stanley Barrett.
  Further information :

All six of Harry and Emily Barrett's sons served in H.M. Forces during WW I.
