LOCAL MAN IN THE BATTLE OF THE PLATE
A member of the crew of the Achilles who took part in the battle of the Plate is Electrical Artificer C.P.O. Vivian Thomas Wilks, of Seymour House, East Cowes. Wilks, who is the elder son of Mrs. C.E. Brett and an ex-scholar of the Grange-road and Newport Secondary Schools, passed third in the artificers' examination for all England. He joined the Navy 11 years ago, and was transferred to the New Zealand Navy about a year since. He is at present with his ship in New Zealand. His father, Mr. T.W. Wilks, was killed at St. Quentin in the Great War while serving with the 13th London Regt.

Warrant Electrician Vivian T.W. Wilks, R.N., son of Mrs. A. Brett and the late Mr. T.W. Wilks, formerly of Seymour House, Bridge-square, East Cowes. Wilks is an old Newport Secondary School boy. His mother left East Cowes about a month ago to reside at 1 Boscombe-road, Shepherd's Bush, London.
  Family information :

His father, Thomas William Wilks, was killed in WW I.
