Archie Lacey was born in 1896 in Brading, the 7th child (of 8 ?) of Joseph George Lacey and Lucy (nee Leal), of Wilton Cottage, Oakfield Hill, Ryde, Isle of Wight. He worked for the I.W. Railway and was Band Secretary of the Ryde Salvation Army Band. It is thought that he was mustered initially in 1915 and he was killed in action on 19th April 1917. Although the family was informed twice that he was missing in action the fact that he was killed was not advised to the family until nearly two years later.
Buried at Gaza War Cemetery (formerly Palestine, now in Israel); grave reference XXI.E.13.
