The aircraft took off from an RAF Middleton St George at 22.53 hrs for operations to bomb Hamburg. It was hit by flak and came down in the River Elbe. It is believed that some of the crew's bodies were taken to Hamburg-Ohlsdorf Cemetery, but their burials appear not to have been recorded by the CWGC and their names are commemorated at the Runnymede Memorial.
