228 Sqn was based at Pembroke Dock between 1943 and 1945 flying anti-submarine patrols. On 12th June 1944 a German U-boat U993 (Oblt. Kurt Hilbig) reported being attacked and returning fire on a Sunderland which crashed into the sea and blew up.
