The aircraft took off at 18.22 hrs for operations on Berlin, but was shot down by German night fighters and crashed at St Maartensdijk (Zeeland). Five of the crew are buried at Bergen-op-Zoom. Sgt Jones has no known grave and his name appears on the Runnymede Memorial.
