208 Sqn were based at Burg-el-Arab in the western desert from July to November 1942, supporting the Eighth Army on reconnaisance duties. It is believed that Strachan was shot down in a Hurricane IIc borrowed from 33 Sqn, by OBFW Friedel of JG27. He crashed near Abu Dwels and has no known grave.
