RIFLEMAN WILLIAM BRINE of Alverstone was one of the many men of the Parish serving in the Isle of Wight Rifles in World War I and one of the eight from the Parish who lost their lives whilst serving in our Island Regiment.

CWGC records do not show a Rfn W Brine of the Isle of Wight Rifles. Rfn 1807 William Brine was discharged wounded in 1916. The reference above is for William Brine, (born in Wellow in 1885), a Bombardier in the Royal Garrison Artillery.
