The aircraft took off at 21:57 hrs from RAF Chedburgh on mine laying Ops. While homeward bound it was hit by flak at 3,000 ft before crashing at Nantes (Loire-Atlantique). Sgt Lee and Sgt O'Brart evaded capture; Sgt Smith became a Prisoner of War (no 613614) at Camp 357 in Kopernikus Thorn. The others were buried at Nantes.
