Plaque to commemorate the service of the Polish warships built at Cowes.

ORP GROM AND ORP BŁYSKAWICA
Built at J.S. White's Shipyard for the Polish Navy and fitted out at Cowes
Launched in 1936
Joined the British Naval force with the ORP Burza in 1939
ORP GROM
Sunk by enemy action at Narvik, Norway on 4th May 1940
with the loss of 59 lives

Unveiled on 5th May 2022.
The 80th anniversary of the air raids on the two towns.
Funded by Red Funnel and East Cowes Town Council
ORP BŁYSKAWICA
Saw action in Norway, Dunkirk and on the Atlantic & Mediterranean convpys
Defended Cowes and East Cowes during the air raids
on the night of 4th/5th May 1942, firing on the enemy aircraft and
putting up a smokescreen
