Bonchurch Pond was given to the village of Bonchurch by Henry de Vere Stacpoole (1863 - 1951) in memory of his wife Margaret who died in 1934

There is an inscription over the gate at the western end of the pond.

Henry de Vere Stacpoole was an Irish-born novelist who lived in Bonchurch.
