Description

An Eagle Lectern dedicated to the memory of Lt H H F Farmar who died on active service in 1896 in Egypt as a result of enteric fever. Originally placed in the Chapel of the Isle of Wight College at Appley, Ryde, it was moved to St Nicholas Chapel in 1905 on the closure of the College.

Further Information

Son of Maj-Gen William R Farmar and Ellinor Louisa Farmar (née Girardot) of Southampton.

Born : 1870, Sandhurst.

Attended the Isle of Wight College in Appley, Ryde.

Census information :

1871 : Colonel William Farmar and Ellinor Farmar, with their children including Hugh aged 7 months, at at High Street, Wickham.

1881 : Maj-Gen William Farmar and Ellinor Farmar, with their children including Hugh aged 10, at at Bedford House, Polygon Road, Southampton.



Service details :

DONGOLA EXPEDITION 1896-97

Lieutenant Hugh Henry Foxcroft FARMAR - 1st King's Royal Rifle Corps (Attached Egyptian Army) - died at Suardeh, 20th July 1896. Serving with 13th Soudanese Battalion. Served in Miranzai 1891 (medal & clasp), Black Mountain 1892, and Chitral 1895 (medal & clasp).
