SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF
COLONEL WILLIAM HENRY DENNIE
OF CLATTERFORD, IN THIS PARISH,
AIDE-DE-CAMP TO THE QUEEN, LIEUTENANT-COLONEL
OF THE 13TH OR PRINCE ALBERT'S REGIMENT OF LIGHT
INFANTRY, AND COMPANION OF THE BATH.

THE SAME PAGE OF HISTORY WHICH RECORDS
SUCCESSES OF THE BRITISH ARMS AT GHUZNEE, BAMEEAN,
AND JELLALABAD, WILL PROCLAIM THE HISTORIC ZEAL
WITH WHICH HE SERVED HIS QUEEN AND COUNTRY.
HE FELL ON THE FIELD OF VICTORY APRIL 7TH 1842,

AFAR FROM CHRISTIAN LANDS,
HIS MORTAL REMAINS SLEEP WITHIN THE LINES

SOUND OF A TRUMPET, AND THEY SHALL GATHER
TOGETHER HIS ELECT FROM THE FOUR WINDS,
FROM ONE END OF HEAVEN TO THE OTHER."
